SANDAKAN: PETRONAS today reached out to the local community and orphans in Sandakan under its Sentuhan Kasih programme in conjunction with the Ramadan month.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman was present to grace the event and break fast together with the local community at Masjid Nurul Nizam in Kampung Sungai Kayu.
He was accompanied by Senior General Manager, Group Corporate Affairs Division, PETRONAS, Dato Mohammad Medan Abdullah; Chairman, Sabah and Labuan, PETRONAS Encik Mohamad Firouz Asnan, as well as Libaran MP Datuk Juslie Ajirol, Batu Sapi MP Datin Linda Tsen, Gum Gum Assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris and Sekong Assemblyman Datuk Samsudin Yahya.
During the buka puasa, Datuk Seri Panglima Musa, who is also Sungai Sibuga Assemblyman, presented duit raya from PETRONAS to 50 orphans as well as witnessed the handing over of Gas PETRONAS cylinders to the mosque.
The Sentuhan Kasih event started yesterday with a series of programmes including collage-making activities with the 50 orphans.
PETRONAS staff volunteers later brought them to shop for their baju raya and treated them to a buka puasa.
Other activities included a forum, “Pembangunan Akhlak di Bulan Ramadan” moderated by Ustaz Fatihin Ali of PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan Regional Office, today.
Dato Medan, in his remarks, expressed his hope that the two-day Sentuhan Kasih programme would touch the lives of the beneficiaries, making their Ramadan month more meaningful.
“Sentuhan Kasih is a continuation of PETRONAS’ tradition of reaching out to the less privileged members of the community in the country during major festive seasons, namely Aidilfitri, Kaamatan, Gawai, Deepavali, Chinese New Year, and Christmas.
“At the same time, the programme also aims at nurturing and enhancing the spirit of giving and volunteerism among PETRONAS’ employees, providing them with a platform to interact and engage with the people of various communities, who are our most valuable stakeholders,” he said.
He also thanked the Chief Minister for his support, and the mosque committee for collaborating with PETRONAS to carry out the programme.
In Sabah, PETRONAS has so far this year organised the Sentuhan Kasih programmes with three charity homes in Beringgis and Kota Kinabalu in conjunction with the Chinese New Year, and with the residents of Mukim Nalapak in Ranau during the Kaamatan.
Since its introduction in 2005, Sentuhan Kasih has joined the stable of PETRONAS’ signature community programmes designed and implemented to reach out and benefit the less privileged groups wherever it operates.
To date, Sentuhan Kasih has touched the life of thousands of less fortunate throughout Sabah.
