Santa Cruz – 5,441 km southeast of Semporna – hit by earthquake

KUALA LUMPUR: An earthquake of 7.8 magnitude on the Richter scale hit Santa Cruz Islands in the South Pacific at 9.12am Wednesday.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement here said the earthquake’s epicentre was 69 km southwest of Lata, Solomon Islands and 5,441 km southeast of Semporna, Sabah.

However, there is no tsunami threat from the earthquake.
